Decimalize 8/9How many people can memorize the first eight digits of the decimalized fraction of 8/9? How about eighty? Maybe eight hundred? Somehow, I decided to preform this rather tedious job of dividing eight into nine to see what I would get. It was rather hard to keep track of long division and figuring out the developing quotient by using the divisor multiplied by the digit and subtracting it from the shrinking dividend. Of course, I could always use the calculator, but most have digits averaging eight significant digits and it wasn't enough.So, once I decided to do this division exercise by pencil and paper, I had to get some longer paper since the job kept taking up more worksheets in order to get the job done. Finally, after some eight hours of doing it by hand, I decided to call it a day and just post the result of the quotient I received. Note that in no way is my answer complete, but it's good enough considering that I have a life to live and this exercise would drive anybody determined to get a zero in the dividend totally insane and would qualify you a trip to the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time, with trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket weavers...
