Or as I used to say--8 is TOO MUCH. I come from a family of 8 myself. That is why I like to watch the show. Interesting things I have noticed: Why is it when the mom died none of the girls turned into " self-appointed moms " ? I know a lot of little girls in real life would make herself the mom of the house--making sure Nicholas ate breakfast, doing the laundry, etc. Even being a little resentful that Abby took over the reigns...Also, whenever someone walks into the kitchen , opens the 'fridge, and pulls out a soda I laugh. Let me assure you in a house of 8 kids you will NOT just have cold sodas lying around in the 'fridge. I also think it is funny when the person with the soda sits down at the table with another family member that person ( esp. Tommy or Nicholas ) will not say " Hey--where's MINE?" One last observation for now...How come Tommy's room never has "real teen " music blasting out of a stereo. Whenever he does listen to music it is all instrumentals, no words, that just goes on and on. But any self-respecting teen will have a radio going all the time ( esp. in a house with 8 kids--it does get very noisy !) No empty soda cans in his room either. LOL

they would have had to pay royalties if they had played any current songs, that's why they have that "generic" music playing.

Oh, so that's why they do that. I've noticed, not only on Eight is Enough, but lots of other shows in the 70's that whenever someone is playing music, or they're out dancing somewhere, they always play this instrumental music that doesn't sound like any recognizable song. Makes sense that they wouldn't want to have to pay royalties.

Like the episode where Tommy's trying to win Fleetwood Mac tickets, he's running around the house listening to "canned" instrumentals calling the radio station to win. So why is it ok to mention Fleetwood Mac tickets but not to play any real music. I guess after paying FM off they couldnt afford to pay anyone else royalties! BTW the Mac rocks!!

Didn't anyone notice that Mary became the mom, that is why she wanted her own place. She had no privacy because eveyone wanted advice. Even after she returned back home she was the mom/Ann Landers until Abby joined. And she even had to give Abby advice.
